The growth in recent years for girls’ and women’s hockey has been significant. In January, the USA Women’s Under-18 team won the gold medal in the 2015
International Ice Hockey Federation World Championship, and in March the USA Women’s National team won the IIHF World Championship.
“We’ve had milestones of success throughout the course of the women’s programs and we continue to see participation growth among women,” said Mike Bertsch, assistant executive director of communications, marketing and events for USA Hockey. “There are several things to attribute that to.
One is the Girls of High School Hockey and the development of girls’ programs around the country. Our success on the international
level has certainly led to that as well. We hold the gold in both female age-level categories that are celebrated internationally for world championships.”
